Portland Drivers Require Siped Tires
Chris Ryser, owner of Bridgetown Automotive, recommends that Portland drivers sipe their tires for safety and increased stopping ability.
Tire siping originated in the trucking industry about 25 years ago, for better grip and safety. Now it’s available for passenger cars.
“We sipe all of our company and personal vehicles,” says Chris. “Siping has been proven to increase traction by 200%. It’s essential for safety on Portland’s wet roads.”
How does siping work?
Siping is basically the process of cutting grooves in the rubber of a tire.
When driving along the road, tread opens up and actually grips the road. Your vehicle stops better and sooner. Siping allows water to be released from the tires, which reduces hydroplaning.
How much does siping cost?
Bridgetown Automotive of Portland can sipe most sets of tires for about $40.
How long will it take to sipe my tires?
We complete the siping process at the same time we rotate your tires and change the oil. It makes good sense.
How will siping affect the life of my tires?
Siping can increase the life of your tires because the wear of the tires is distributed more evenly.
However, siping on a 4-wheel-drive tire with cleats and driving it on really rough surfaces could reduce the life of the tire. If you’re driving on pavement with the same tires, no problem.
